BEHIND THE BUILD: How is a Mr Cabins Modular Home built differently?
Australia doesn’t do “mild” very well. We experience scorching summers, heavy rainfall, high winds, coastal salt exposure and, in some regions, cyclonic conditions.
That’s why our modular and expandable homes aren’t just designed to look great… they’re engineered to perform in every Australian environment.
At the core of our construction system are EPS insulated panels and galvanized steel framing, working together to deliver exceptional strength, energy efficiency and long-term durability.
Designed for Your Location
Every site is different. That’s why our homes are engineered to suit either non-cyclonic or cyclonic regions, ensuring compliance, safety and structural integrity.
Non-Cyclonic Construction
- Internal Walls: 75mm EPS insulated panels
- External Walls: 50mm EPS insulated panel + 25mm cladding
- Structural Frame: 75mm galvanized steel frame (minimum)
- Flooring: 14mm Cement Sanding Board with 50mm EPS insulated panel (composite flooring on top)
- Foundation: Screw piers (subject to final engineering)
Cyclonic Construction
- Internal Walls: 75mm insulated panels
- External Walls: 75mm EPS insulated panel + 25mm cladding
- Structural Frame: 100mm galvanized steel frame (minimum)
- Floor Frame: 14mm Cement Sanding Board with 50mm EPS insulated panel (4mm composite flooring on top)
- Foundation: Bored piers or concrete slab (subject to final engineering)
The difference? Increased wall thickness, stronger structural framing and upgraded foundations to withstand extreme wind loads.

What Is EPS?
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is an advanced building material widely used in modern construction for its strength, insulation performance and versatility.
EPS is created by expanding tiny polystyrene beads into a rigid, closed-cell foam structure. These beads are fused together under heat and pressure to form lightweight yet durable panels.
In modular construction, EPS panels are used as the core component of wall, roof and floor systems.
When combined with galvanized steel framing, they create a building system that balances structural performance with thermal efficiency.
Simply put…. it’s smarter building technology.

Why EPS Panels Make Sense in Modular Homes
EPS delivers excellent thermal resistance (R-values), helping your home stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter. That means lower energy bills and a more comfortable living environment all year round.
Strength Without the Weight
EPS panels are lightweight and easy to transport and install. But when paired with galvanized steel framing, they create an exceptionally strong and resilient wall system built to last.
Moisture & Pest Resistance
Unlike timber, EPS will not rot, warp or attract termites. Being non-organic, it doesn’t provide a food source for pests…. ensuring long-term durability with reduced maintenance.
Acoustic Performance
The dense composition of EPS panels naturally dampens sound, creating a quieter and more peaceful living space…. ideal for both urban and regional settings.
Fire Performance
EPS panels are manufactured to meet strict building codes. When combined with compliant cladding systems, they provide a safe and reliable residential solution.
Sustainable & Eco-Friendly
EPS is fully recyclable. Its high insulation performance reduces energy consumption, lowering household greenhouse emissions. Modular construction methods also produce significantly less site waste compared to traditional builds.
Faster Installation
Prefabricated and lightweight, EPS panels allow for rapid assembly. That means shorter build times, less site disruption and earlier move-in dates…. without compromising on quality.

The Perfect Match for Modular Construction
Modular building is all about precision, efficiency and performance…. and EPS panels are the ideal partner.
Manufactured off-site to exact specifications, panels are delivered ready for installation. Their lightweight design simplifies handling, while their strength and insulation properties ensure long-term structural integrity and comfort.
In short, EPS panels are more than insulation.
They are a high-performance building solution that helps create homes that are stronger, smarter and built to thrive in every Australian climate.
